Mayo to remember Pipe Major at MMTradfest18

MMTradfest18 stage a series of events in Mayo to remember its Pipe Major

This year’s 2018 Mayo Manchester Tradfest will stage a series of events to remember Bill Lisgo (RIP) the pipe major of the award winning Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band who recently lost his battle against Cancer.

The first event takes place in Castlebar on Friday 3 when the Cathaoirleach (Mayor) of Mayo County Council, Cllr Blackie Gavin have arranged for a civic welcome for the band in Castlebar and the planting of a tree in Bill’s memory.

Later on the same night the band will stage a special 70th anniversary concert in honour of Bill at the Achill Head Hotel at 9pm. We have asked members of the Achill Pipe Band and the representatives of the 5 Pipe bands on Achill along with performers from Scoil Acla to join us at the free concert which is hosted by Alan Keegan, the Voice of Old Trafford at Manchester United. The Concert will feature singers Marian Waldron as seen on Sky TV and one of the stars of the BBC TV series The Voice – Joe Keegan and the Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band.

Finally the group are staging a charity raffle on Saturday 4 August at the Ballina Arts Centre which is being donated to The Christie Cancer Hospital and MacMillan Cancer Care Nurses. Family and Friends of Bill have already raised over £6,000 for The Marie Currie Cancer Care Charity in his memory.

Tony Hennigan from Mayo Manchester commented “Bill really enjoyed his trips to Mayo and despite his illness always managed to attend the events, we are delighted that so many people have been so supportive in helping us remember him. I am sure he will be looking down on us from Heaven. ”

The Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band , Joe Keegan from the BBC TV show The Voice and Marion Waldron as seen on Sky TV, representing Mayo's Premier Irish Dancing talent are The Jiving Juniors as seen on RTE TV Late Late Show , The Turley Duggan Academy of Irish Dancing and The Murphy Moore Academy of Irish Dancing .

Mayo's vocal talent is represented by The Centre Stage Vocal Academy plus singer songwriters Con Murphy and Dennis McCalmont .
