The Manchester based award winning Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band will stage a special 70th anniversary tour of Mayo in the summer as part of the hugely successful Mayo Manchester Tradfest. The week long Irish Music, Song and Dance festival which is now in its sixth year will be staging a series of concerts and performances in Mayo from the 2nd to the 8th August.
The band are now established as the UK's longest running Pipe Band and will be joined on tour with Alan Keegan from Manchester United Football Club and Joe Keegan from the BBC TV show The Voice, along with over 450 performers from Mayo who are involved in the festival.
Tony Hennigan from Mayo Manchester commented "We are really excited about celebrating this historic event in Mayo, the festival has continued to grow each year and we were delighted to represent Mayo in the finals of the 2017 Failte Ireland Tourism Industry awards for festivals which attract over 50,000 visitors. Last year the Mayor of Castlebar Cllr Martin McLaghlin, Cllr Blackie Gavin and Lisa Chambers TD invited us back to Castlebar for a civic reception to celebrate the historic anniversary as one of the highlights of this years Tradfest."
The tour hopes to visit Attymass, Achill, Ballina, Bonniconlon, Castlebar, Swinford and Westport and are currently contacting venues and groups to finalise the details of the tour.
